War Resisters International Triennial -
Turkish prisoner elected
The War Resisters International/WRI Triennial conference, Building Peace Together, took place recently at Porec, Croatia, attended by upwards of 300 people in total. As well as a range of plenary, theme group and workshop meetings, elections were held for the WRI Council; topping the poll was Turkish conscientious objector Osman Murat Ulke of the Izmir War Resisters Association who is in prison, repeatedly sentenced for 'disobedience'. The war and humanitarian crisis in Kosovo was a major focus of attention, as was the situation more generally in the various parts of the former Yugoslavia. Rob Fairmichael's report on the Triennial is online.

Tools For Solidarity
The past few months have been extremely busy... Two international workcamps were held, one in Belfast and one in Dublin; the participants came to help TFS refurbish tools for working people in Tanzania, putting together kits of tools for carpenters, shoemakers, tailoring groups etc. While here they helped collect tools door to door in Belfast and raised over 1500 Irish pounds.

TFS has now developed its own educational material with photographs and information gathered from the field trip last year; Hamish Arrowsmith has produced 5 slide packs and a photo pack. We are happy to visit groups who want to know more about our work and visitors are always welcome in our workshop - and the first Sunday of the month is an open day. See you there!
