Burma Action Ireland (BAI)
BAI is a small group of individuals who have since 1996 tried to keep
the flag of a Democratic and Federal Burma flying in Ireland, North and
South. Our major aim is to influence Irish Government policy and thus EU
policy to support Aung San Suu Kyi and her followers both inside Burma and
in exile. Two years ago with the support of NI Amnesty office, we brought
the Prime Minister of the National Coalition Government of the Union of
Burma to Belfast where he met senior members of all the pro-Good Friday
parties. He was deeply impressed despite the difficulties and took
inspiration from what he heard. We are always looking for new people to
help us as we are a totally voluntary group with no office and few
resources. If you want further information, contact us at ba-i@yahoo.com
or phone Dublin 01 – 296 2238.

News from the IFOR secretariat inc. Coordinator, Iraq, Women
Peacemakers
Congratulations to the International Fellowship of Reconciliation’s
new International Coordinator David Mumford who begins his work in
November. His first week at the Secretariat in Alkmaar will also be the
first meeting of the new IFOR International Committee, seven IFOR members
from Japan, India, Zimbabwe, the US, Austria, and Switzerland. IFOR's new
President is Jonathan Sisson from Switzerland. To welcome all of this new
leadership, the Secretariat is holding a party, called a ‘Borrel’ in
Dutch, on the afternoon of 8 February. Friends of IFOR and NGOs from
around the Netherlands have been invited, but our Irish peace colleagues
are welcome as well!
For people who are trying to learn all they can about the war in Iraq
before it starts, IFOR has compiled an annotated resource list of
informative web pages, in English and other languages. If you would like a
copy, send a message to IFORinaction@ifor.org
IFOR's Women Peacemakers Program has a full year of activities ahead in
2003, including a Consultation in Latin America and a Training for
Trainers. One other aspect of their work is an effort to 'engender' the
peace movement, getting peace groups to look at their own structures and
process with ‘gender glasses’. If you would like more information,
contact Shelley Anderson at WPP: s.anderson@ifor.org
The IFOR office is at Spoorstraat 38, 1815 BK Alkmaar, Netherlands, ph +33

which is frequent, along comes Community Dialogue to reduce things to the
basics. Their latest leaflet (Down Again! The Fourth Suspension, 4
